Bible Verses, Prayer & Encouragement for Grief

Grieving Today?

Grief has a way of changing everything. Whether you’ve lost someone you deeply love, a dream you held close, a relationship you treasured, or a season of life you weren’t ready to leave behind, sorrow can feel heavy and unpredictable.

There is no “right way” to grieve, and there is no timeline for healing. God does not ask you to hide your tears or rush your sorrow. He meets you with compassion, walks beside you through the valley, and gently reminds you that you do not carry this pain alone.

3 Scriptures for Grief
🌿

God Is Near to Your Broken Heart

Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart,
and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

Psalm 34:18 (WEB)

Grief can make God feel far away, but Scripture tells us the opposite. He draws especially close to those who are hurting. 🌿

Jesus Promises Comfort

Blessed are those who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Matthew 5:4 (WEB)

Jesus never minimizes sorrow. He acknowledges it and promises that comfort will come from Him. 🌿

One Day Every Tear Will Be Wiped Away

He will wipe away from them every tear from their eyes.
Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain any more.
The first things have passed away.

Revelation 21:4 (WEB)

Grief is real, but it is not the end of the story. God is preparing a future where sorrow will be no more. 🌿

A Prayer for Grief 🌿

Father,

My heart hurts.

There are moments when the weight of this loss feels too heavy to carry, and I don’t know what to do with all the sadness I hold inside. Some days the grief arrives unexpectedly, and other days it lingers quietly beneath everything I do.

Thank You for not asking me to hide my tears or pretend that I am stronger than I feel. You already know the depth of this sorrow and the love that makes this loss so painful. You understand the memories I cherish, the questions I cannot answer, and the emptiness that remains.

Please draw near to me in this season. Hold me when I feel weak. Give me grace for the days when simply getting through the next hour feels difficult. Help me trust that You are still present, even when I cannot understand why this happened.

Comfort me with Your peace. Surround me with people who will sit with me in love and patience. Remind me that grief is not a sign of weak faith, but often a reflection of deep love.

Until joy slowly finds its way back into my life, help me take one step at a time with You beside me.

Thank You for Your promise that one day You will wipe away every tear and make all things new.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
